Military Experience
Irving enlisted in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 29th, 1940, into the US Army and was assigned to Company “A” of the 30th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division as a private after completing training. The 3rd Infantry Division was commanded by Major-General Jonathan Waverly Anderson. He was stationed in North Africa. In October 1942, Irving travelled back home on a week’s leave, which ended on October 19th. Leddy would eventually die on Monday, December 28th, 1942, in Oujda, French Morocco. He succumbed to gonorrhoeal urethritis, as well as congestive heart failure, out of battle, in a French Military Hospital.
